Milford Bathroom Renovation

A Bathroom Upgrade That Uncovered a Bigger Problem

What started as a planned bathroom update in Milford became a more involved renovation once the existing flooring was removed.

During demolition, our team discovered extensive moisture damage caused by a long-term leak from the neighbouring laundry. The particle board flooring had deteriorated badly, and sections of the supporting structure beneath were no longer in suitable condition.

Rather than building over the issue, the damaged materials were removed and the affected structure was rebuilt before the bathroom renovation continued.

Repairing the Hidden Damage

Access beneath the house was restricted, which made the repair work more challenging.

Once the extent of the damage was confirmed, the affected timber was removed and replaced with new framing to provide a sound base for the rebuilt floor and bathroom above.

Part of the remediation was covered through insurance, helping the homeowners manage the unexpected additional work.

Despite the discovery, the project remained on track and the completed bathroom was handed over before Christmas as originally planned.

Making Better Use of a Compact Bathroom

The existing bathroom dated back to the 1990s and needed both a visual update and a more practical layout.

Plumbing and electrical locations were adjusted to better suit the new arrangement, with every part of the room planned carefully to make the most of the available space.

A shower-over-bath configuration was selected so the family could retain a full-size bath without sacrificing shower functionality. With a separate shower already available in the master ensuite, this provided a practical balance between the two bathrooms.

Modern Finishes With a Stronger Design

The new bathroom renovation introduced a much more contemporary look while remaining practical for everyday family use.

Dark grey plank-style tiles were laid in a brick pattern to create depth and texture through the room. The darker finish gives the bathroom a strong architectural feel while providing a contrasting backdrop for the lighter fittings.

A new vanity was paired with a backlit LED mirror, improving both task lighting and the overall appearance of the space.

The shower area also includes a tiled recessed niche with integrated lighting, providing convenient storage without introducing additional shelving into the compact room.

A Stronger Bathroom Behind the Finishes

The finished room looks very different from the bathroom we started with, but some of the most important work is now hidden from view.

Repairing the moisture-damaged floor and framing ensured the new bathroom was built on a solid structure rather than simply covering an existing problem.

The result is a modern family bathroom that combines practical use, durable construction, and a more considered interior finish.
