Albany Extension
Creating More Space Without Losing the Feel of the Home
This Albany extension was completed to give the homeowners additional space while keeping the character and flow of the existing house intact.
The project introduced two important new areas: a dedicated master bedroom and a separate formal lounge. Together, they created more flexibility within the home and allowed the existing living spaces to work more effectively for everyday family life.
A New Master Bedroom
Adding a new master bedroom gave the homeowners a more private space within the house.
Rather than trying to reorganise the existing bedrooms, extending the footprint allowed the new room to be positioned as a purposeful addition to the home.
Privacy, natural light, and connection to the surrounding rooms were all considered so the new space felt established rather than added on afterwards.
Adding a Separate Formal Lounge
The extension also created a new formal lounge, giving the household another living area away from the main everyday spaces.
Having multiple living zones can make a significant difference in a family home. It provides more flexibility for entertaining, relaxing, or simply allowing different parts of the household to use the home at the same time.
The new lounge was integrated with the existing layout so movement between old and new areas remained straightforward and natural.
Making the Extension Feel Original
One of the main priorities was ensuring the additional floor area felt like part of the original home.
Proportions, transitions, and the relationship between the new rooms and existing spaces were carefully considered throughout the build.
A successful house extension should provide more room without making the home feel disconnected. In this case, the new spaces expanded the footprint while maintaining the overall character of the property.
The Finished Albany Home
The completed extension gave the homeowners more privacy, greater flexibility, and two valuable new spaces without changing what they already liked about the house.
The new master bedroom provides a dedicated retreat, while the additional lounge creates another comfortable area for family living and entertaining.
